A Whole New World

Let me start off by saying, I LOVE my sweet Emery and I'm thankful for her everyday!! I love being a mommy (daytime > nighttime) and she is truly a precious gift.

It's been a busy 6 weeks since the stork dropped off my beautiful baby girl and I've come to discover that nothing about having a baby is easy, except maybe spending money on baby girl clothes.  Before Emery arrived I thought I understood what I was getting myself into, everyone told me it was going to be hard. However, I think that maybe all the experienced parents are too tired to actually explain just how hard it is, and just how much sleep you are going to lose.  I'm going to throw a huge party the day Emery sleeps through the night. With just 2 weeks left until I return to work (and 12 hour days) I am hoping to have this party sooner rather than later.  Luckily, Emery is a great baby. She has had some tummy issues (like her daddy) but now we are getting it all figured out and she's doing much better. Her formula smells like dog food, but she doesn't seem to mind it.

I think for some ridiculous reason Brannon and I envisioned a baby coming out ready to talk, play, and interact (and dress up in cute clothes ;) ) That's funny. So far, we live life 3 hours at a time... Eat, sleep, poop (then change clothes), repeat.  She's starting to be more awake during the day and its exciting to see her grow and develop. She's starting to focus on us when she's looking around and you can tell she knows who her mom is, yay!! I can't wait for her to smile at me! :) In between all of the day to day stuff we have had a lot of fun experiences as new parents...and a lot of firsts.  We are learning as we go and luckily Em still loves us even though we don't have this parent thing completely down yet.

We took our first road trip with Emery and she did really well. We only ventured about 4 hours to Atlanta, but she was great in the car. She slept practically the whole way, only waking up to eat. Speaking of the car, I wish I could have taken a picture of just how packed out this car was! With 2 dogs and a baby I couldn't dig out the camera for a picture. It was insane though. How can such a tiny baby need so much stuff????  We had a great visit. She met her great grandparents Mike and Marge for the first time and we had 4 generations of ladies all together.

Great Grandparents

And now that spring is here, we were able to have our first family day on the mountain in Huntsville. This was not only Em's first trip to the mountain, but mine as well. It was a beautiful day and we had so much fun just hanging out enjoying the first springtime weather of the year. As parents, we figured out that nothing will ever be quick again. An impromptu trip to the park takes approximately 2.5 hours to prepare for.

And the most valuable lesson of all...Family is priceless! Our families have been so supportive and helpful. They give us rest and knowledge and are just fun to be around! They have dropped everything to help us in these first few months and I feel blessed to have such an amazing family. Grandmommas ROCK!
